The old book looked as if had been handeled often. Yet it held an aire of elegance about it, as if someone of great importance once held ownership of it. You see an engraving on the cover and run your fingers over it to feel the texture. Slowly you turn the pages to read the handwriting inside. |
I have come to this new land by means I know nothing about. So many strange things stand about me and the people here are so oddly dressed. It is sometimes frightening, yet I am excited by all that I see.
Today I ventured amongst the villagers who spoke not to me but looked upon me as if I were an oddity. I walked for many hours in awe of my new surroundings. Such strange machines do travel the streets and the structures are taller than any I have before seen.
One kind gentleman showed curiosity and stopped to speak with me. He asked me my occupation and if I were a visitor from far away. He smiled at me as I answered then led me to a grand building that reminded me of home. How I have missed the beauty of the archetecture I have left behind.
He led me inside, then bid me good day. As I looked about me I saw the works of many before me and those of whom I saw daily. I was stood in amazement as my eyes fell upon one that I had prepaired the paints for. Leonardo would have been proud to see how well his work has been greeted.
There were many rooms, each holding treasures of every kind. But there was one that did hold my attention for many hours, for it held images that I had never before seen.
Upon one wall I beheld illusions that would amaze even those I once was employed by. For their discoveries were taken to new levels as one could almost feel the depth within these paintings.
In one corner of the room I beheld sketches that played tricks upon me, for they showed things that were too impossible to be true. Strange worlds turned upside down and and creatures in amazing forms.
There was more trickery afoot as I viewed more. Yet these be done in a humorous way. For one moment I would see one thing before me then suddenly it appear as something else.
Albrecht would be as intrigued as I to see the detail set before me as I came upon more images. These held much interest as they seemed to come to life. Such realism in reflection and texture.
Yet it was upon the far wall that I was most drawn and held captive. Visions so outstanding appeared before me. The mystery of color seemed to unravel before me. My eyes were but deceived as they beheld lines that seemed to move on their own. Looking upon them made me quite dizzy.
Near the end of the day I noticed a group of works that seemed no more than blotches of color which held no purpose. But upon observing two small boys approach these works, I sensed they saw more than I did. I listened carefully and watched with a keen eye, and when they had gone I mimicked their actions and took wondermeant at the images hidded within these woven colors.
There is so much for me to take home with me. But I fear I need to know more before I can leave this strange place. I will need to learn the secrets to these marvelous works. If only I had someone to help me in my search.
