The Journey Begins

You have gone camping with your family for the weekend and while hiking alone in the woods, a terrible storm arrives quickly. The strong winds and heavy rain make it nearly impossible to see which way you came and you soon find yourself lost.

Luckily there is a light just ahead of you and you make your way towards it. Soon you find yourself standing before an old house nestled in the trees. You walk up the three steps to the covered porch and knock on the door. No one answers.

Desperate to be out of the cold and rain you make your way around the house, looking for an entrance. Surprisingly the back door is unlocked and you are able to enter easily.

You call out but no one answers. Venturing into the main room of the house you notice a roaring fire in the fireplace. A plate with bread and cheese sit on a table nearby along with a glass of buttermilk. As if someone had just been sitting down for a meal.

You notice that there is no electricity and that the room is dimly lit with candles. Then you are drawn to a writing table across the room with several candles on it.

On the table sits a small jar of ink and a writing quill. Next to them lays an old book.

Noticing a small drawer in the writing table you open it. Inside is a gold key.

With great curiosity you look about the room and locate a large chest sitting in a dark corner. You walk over to it to see if the key fits. Surprisingly it does and you slowly open the lid to the trunk. Inside you find something of interest.

Something tells you this item may be important. Though you are tempted to take it with you, it remains where you found it as you close the lid of the chest.

Hearing a loud thud from down the hallway, you take up one of the candles and go to investigate.
