Ammut
(Ammet, Ahemait)
The monster who eats the heart of those unworthy of eternal life.
"Dead Swallower"
This goddess is represented with the head of a crocodile, the forequarters of a lion, and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus.
Ammut dwells in the house of Ma'at. Here she waits for judgment to be passed on the souls of the deceased.
She devoured the souls that were found to be unworthy to dwell in the afterlife.
This judgment was made by the weighing of the heart of the dead against the feather of Ma'at.
